Queen of the Net Mary Meeker predicts new online ad boom

That’s Morgan Stanley’s internet analyst Mary Meeker who told a conference in New York that online advertising is due for another huge boost based on figures showing that it takes just 13 per cent of US adspend although it accounts for 28 per cent of media viewing.

The comparable figures for TV are 39 per cent of adspend for 31 per cent of viewing.

Developments like Apple’s iPad are sure to increase online’s share (the iPad reached one million users in just 28 days says Mary) which helps to account for the current spat between Apple and Google over access to Apple’s iAd system.

It will also be a further cause for worry for trad media owners who may have thought that the worst of the online wave was over.
