CDP generation ebbs away as Brian Duffy dies

Collett Dickenson Pearce, the famous although now defunct London agency whose alumni recently celebrated its 50th ‘birthday’, lost another of its famous names this week with the death of photographer Brian Duffy.

Duffy never actually worked in advertising much but he shot some famous press and poster ads for Benson & Hedges for CDP at the same time as long-time rival David Bailey was making Olympus his own.

He was much better known for his celeb and showbiz pics, like the one of Sixties model Grace Coddington shown here.

But he was part of the golden generation who worked in and around CDP in the mid to late Sixties including David Puttnam, Charles Saatchi, Alan Parker, Paul Weiland, Hugh Hudson, ringmaster Frank Lowe and creative directors Colin Millward and John Salmon.
