Nike ad shows Wayne Rooney losing the World Cup – is this wise?

He’s a good sport that Wayne Rooney (a rich good sport of course) and now he’s appearing in a Nike ad ‘write the future’ showing him living on a caravan park after apparently passing the ball to France’s Frank Ribery and consigning England to yet another World Cup disappointment.

But there’s no football in the ad, just a poster of a triumphant Ribery gazing down on Rooney’s new humble circumstances while two old codgers discuss Wayne’s cock-up. It should be funny but it isn’t really. And one doubts that England fans will appreciate the sentiment anyway.
