Sell! Sell! eschews the hard sell for Drambuie

Drambuie is a funny old liqueur (very old, it was allegedly consumed by Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745, the last time the Scots revolted against the English) made of whisky and honey. I expect the Queen Mother used to drink it.

And it’s just produced a funny-peculiar new commercial from Sell! Sell!, a London agency that prides itself on dispensing with all that agency flim flam and getting out there and, er, selling. Which, on the face of it, this doesn’t. There’s a rather stylish press campaign too (left).

A ‘taste of the extraordinary’ indeed. Booze ads are getting more like old Benson & Hedges cigarette ads, surreal films with just a health warning, in this case the ever-irritating ‘Enjoy Responsibly’ (not the agency’s doing). Actually this slogan, just like the old fag health warning, is sometimes the only clue to what the product is.
