Will 2012 be the year Wieden+Kennedy London finally punches its weight?

That’s a bit harsh you say, this is the Honda agency after all! And Wieden+Kennedy London has just, after something of a hiatus, produced a new show stopper for Honda’s Civic although the online pre-campaign won most of the plaudits (the way of the world these days, you might also say).

But the London agency, which has been in the shadow of all-conquering W+K Amsterdam (the Gunn Report’s top agency of 2011, Nike, Heineken etc) has recovered from a gruesome first half of 2011 when it lost Nokia and the Guardian with two noteworthy campaigns for Arla Foods, Cravendale’s ‘cats with thumbs’ and then Lurpak Lightest’s energetic food porn.

Now W+K has moved from cats to hedgehogs for Arla’s Lactofree (hedgehogs are lactose intolerant apparently, so be careful when you take one to a restaurant).

Next up from Arla is a Lactofree ice cream we learn. This ad is by Holly Newton and directed by Mighty Boosh director Paul King for Stink.

The next really big challenge for W+K London is its first campaign for new client mobile network Three. That might just be the trigger to persuade some really big clients through the door.

    – New Media Age most respected agency 2011
    – M. Week / Engage Runner Up agency of the year 2011
    – Creative Review agency of the year 2011
    – ITV ad of the year 2011
    – ANNAs press campaign of the year 2011
    – 5 x golds at British TV awards 2011
    – New biz wins in last couple of months: Stride gum, Lurpak global, Schweppes.
    – Also worth pointing out that Gunn-ruling Nike campaign was done by WK London Nike creative team, working with WK Amsterdam, rather than “in their shadow”.

    So, some reasonably meaty punching last year. Not to say that we are complacent. Last year was not one of our best and we must work hard to do better in 2012.
