The South Africans are still smarting after their defeat against Australia in the Rugby World Cup quarter finals last weekend but tell-it-like-it-is insurance company Frank.net and agency Fox P2 are trying to turn it to their advantage with this topical ad (left), addressed to Kiwi referee Bryce Lawrence.
Lawrence didn’t help the South African cause by appearing to ignore all the rules about handling and obstructing at the breakdown (the biggest pain in rugby union after the scrum) which Aussie flanker David Pocock and his colleagues exploited to their (winning) advantage.
FoxP2 creative director Justin Gomes says: “We have tapped into the rugby frenzy by producing ads like ‘If your blood really is green, we pay’ for Serious Illness Cover, ‘If you choke like the All Blacks, we pay’ for Life Cover and ‘If your job is going the same way as the Div’s, we pay’ for Salary Protection.”
“The latest instalment reads, ‘Mr. Lawrence after Sunday’s match you may want to call 0860 111 735 for life cover,’” he adds. “It is a simple and straight-forward message but any South African who watched the game on Sunday will appreciate the humour.”
