Procter & Gamble was the UK’s biggest ad spender in 2010 with £195m, a whopping increase on the £158m it spent in 2009 according to Nielsen figures for the Daily Telegraph. Next comes BSkyB on £168m, up from £151m and doubtless adding more fuel to the fire over News Corporation’s bid to buy all of [...]

If it carries on like this they’ll be kicking the corgis next at that big house at London SW1A 1AA (there’s an address for you). Buckingham Palace spokespeople (Private Eye occasionally imagines one called Sir Alan Fitztightly) are still trying to persuade us to call Prince William’s intended Kate Middleton (or ‘waity Katie’ as she [...]

Well it’s a bit embarrassing isn’t it, there ITV goes with its annual tribute to advertisers and agencies and the winning ad, chosen by a panel of 8,000 viewers apparently, is the ‘Harvey the dog’ campaign from The Red Brick Road for ITV’s own marketing body Thinkbox. There must have been a few angst-ridden conversations [...]

According to Crowell Advertising & PR’s second annual Tracy Awards they are anyway. Agency founder Tracy Cowell reckoned there was a gap in the awards market for real stinkers and here’s the full list, the cream of the crap as Tracy puts it. The Vegetarians against McDonald’s, or whoever they are, ad is a strange [...]

Put it like that and the probably answer is no but new McCann Worldgroup CEO Nick Brien is nothing if not ambitious and newly-appointed creative director and chairman (of McCann Erickson New York and London) Linus Karlsson (left) has been brilliant in his native Sweden, at Fallon and then at Mother New York which he [...]

They used to say that the most important JWT executive in the US wasn’t the boss but the guy handling the Ford account. So if you had to lose one or the other it was best to get rid of the boss. In the case of DraftFCB Chicago owner Interpublic has managed to get rid [...]

It never stops really and clients (the dear loves) take such enjoyment from calling pitches over the holiday season. Household products giant SC Johnson wins this year’s prize for the latest call. Anyway, have a good holiday, thanks for reading and we’ll still be here while our much more hard-working colleagues are taking the next [...]

As these media giants have changed their Man of the Year accolade to Person of the Year (but still pick blokes) maybe we should be looking for a woman (that ever popular activity). Hmm, there’s a tough one. In UK agency land the upper level of AMV/BBDO has long been dominated by gals although new [...]

Former Cadbury marketing director Phil Rumbol (Mr Gorilla) and three refugees from Fallon UK, Laurence Green, creative Richard Flintham and designer Mark Elwood, have revealed a little about their eagerly-awaited new agency. It’s going to called 101 (which comes as something of a relief after some of the odd names and even worse spelling we’ve [...]
